Mixed Feelings is a contemplative work by composer Ozie Cargile. It is meant to express a mixture of emotions from joy to sadness, from rapture to despair. Originally written for piano on March 1, 2000, Cargile arranged the piece for violin later that year and premiered it with violinist Tami Lee Hughes during a Composer’s Forum at the University of Michigan School of Music. In the years following, Hughes would go on to perform the work with pianist Ellen Bottorff across the United States and around the world. In 2009, the two recorded the piece for Hugh’s Legacy project on Albany records, which features violin music by African American composers. Mixed Feelings is among the most requested and performed works by Ozie Cargile.
